Arizona River Runners company history, outfitters since 1970

Most Grand Canyon outfitters were born out of the trials and tribulations from the early days of running,
some as early as the late 1930s. Those river runners forged down the Colorado River with nothing more than
an adventurous spirit, heavy wooden boats and a desire to share the adventure with countless thousands of
people from all walks of life. Those early experiences spawned the foundation of the contemporary commercial
outfitting industry in the Grand Canyon.
When Fred Burke founded Arizona River Runners in 1970 his mission was simple: provide countless others
with the opportunity to experience the awesome nature of the spectacular Grand Canyon by rafting the Colorado
River. Those humble beginnings saw the birth of the modern adventure vacation, pioneered by early river
running guides who ventured out on no more than surplus equipment, raw determination and a willing spirit.
From river runner guides to owners, meet Bruce and Bill

Bill Gloeckler and Bruce Winter, two early river running guides,
both saw the wild adventures of Colorado River rafting as a way to make a living and be a part of a growing
industry that would allow thousands of people to respect and enjoy the nature of the Grand Canyon. Just being
excellent guides was not enough for these two adventurous spirits, so in 1985 they approached Fred Burke and
became the newest owners of Arizona River Runners.
Bruce and Bill have proven that hard work and dedication can become the benchmark of success. They've passed
along that standard of excellence to its professional staff and that's why our company continues to succeed today.
Arizona River Runners, like many outfitters, believes that the safety and satisfaction of the passenger is
paramount in the success of the rafting trip, and creating raft trips that appeal to families, individuals and
groups is a cornerstone of the success. Our goal "is to make your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity into a safe,
memorable experience that will become your favorite once-in-a-lifetime adventure."
Multi-day whitewater rafting trips on the Colorado River give both
river guides and customers a chance to experience the true
spirit of the Canyon, gain a new perspective on life, and connect with many other like-minded people who
appreciate this unique outdoor environment. Spending time in the Canyon gives individuals the chance to be
kids again, to laugh and just appreciate the small things in life, in a very Grand Place.
Since 1970 and countless hours spent rafting the Colorado River, Arizona River Runners has
grown to be one of the most innovative, progressive and well-respected outfitters operating in
the Grand Canyon. We operate with customized state of the art
rafts and boats
and provide the majority of the camping and day gear you'll need.
