Where You’ll Sleep: Grand Canyon River Trip Cots

By Krystal • January 20, 2026

A good night’s sleep goes a long way on a Grand Canyon river trip! We kept that in mind when selecting our cots. Most of our guests are surprised by how comfortable they are and how well they sleep on their trip!

“LOVE your camping gear. Normally, I hate cots, and darned if those weren’t the most comfortable cots I’ve ever slept on, and I think I will buy some for our own camping adventures.” Mary K, 59, Menlo Park, CA

“The cots were actually comfortable! I never used a tent – slept under the stars each night. Wow!” Peggy B, 64, Minneapolis, MN

We use CampTime Roll-A-Cots, which measure 79″ long, 32″ wide, and sit 15″ off the ground. They’re roomy, supportive, and comfortable for most guests.

If you have a back issue and prefer extra padding, you’re welcome to bring a sleeping pad. Just be sure it’s a compact, backpacking-style pad that will fit in the dry bag we provide. Here are a few options from REI. Inflatable pads work well, but self-inflating pads are not recommended due to their size and weight. Storage space on the rafts is limited, and you’ll need to keep the total weight of belongings to 25lbs or lighter.

The cots can be set up on sand, rocks, or uneven terrain. The mesh storage bag also doubles as a hanging storage pouch when it is set up, which is handy for keeping essentials, like your headlamp, within reach.

On the first night, guides will give you a demonstration on how to set it up. The process is simple, and most guests have it dialed in by the second night.

No question too small!
